The recommendation follows the Global Geoparks Council's 11th meeting. If the Executive Board approves it, Khon Kaen would become Thailand's third UNESCO Global Geopark, after Satun and Khorat.
Khon Kaen Geopark has passed UNESCO’s evaluation and is recommended for Global Geopark status, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin said.
The decision now rests with the UNESCO Executive Board, which is scheduled to consider the proposal in April 2027.
